Types of Maps
EX/PX creates a number of different maps suitable for different situations and ERPs. Below you’ll find the main categories with a sample map illustrating each.
Access Maps
Access maps show where the operation is within its surroundings and relative to the closest urban centre. This is similar to a standard road map and shows how to get to (access) the site. They can be included in any type of ERP. They may also be included as in inset on area and site maps if there is enough room. This is particularly helpful for telling service companies how to get to the site in an emergency. This sample access map shows the general area around a company's producing field. You can interactively view the various maps below.
Area and Site Maps
Area maps are for area ERPs and site maps for site-specific ERPs. Each include enclosed shapes (rarely a nice circle) showing the inner emergency planning zone (EPZ) and the outer emergency awareness zone (EPZ). The area shown in a site map is at least two times the size of its EPZ. This sample area map shows a production field and the affected public which are addressed in the emergency response plan. This sample site map shows The public protection area.
Production
We don’t usually supply our maps in electronic format like the samples above, but rather as part of ERP binders. For example, our D&C ERPs usually come with 8.5 by 11 or 11 by 17 inch maps. Our area maps can also be provided in wall size. And we can do any of our maps in black and white or in colour.
Which Do You Need?
We work with you to determine what type of ERP you need for your situation and the appropriate map to correspond with that ERP. For example, for a critical well, you would need a site-specific ERP with a site-specific map.
